
One of the 7 Wonders of the World is the Temple of Artemis.
Built by King Croesus of Lydia in about 500 BC it was famous for its rich and sumptuous ornaments designed by Cherisphon and Metagenes of Crete. It was thought to be the finest temple in the whole of the Greek world and was also one of the largest, being twice the size of the Parthenon in Athens.
