Stone sculpture Jonah and whale. About 700 BC, God calls the prophet Jonah who should inform the people of Nineveh that their sinful city is to be destroyed soon. Jonah doesn’t want to do so and flees by a ship. God arranges a heavy gale, the crew throws Jonah overboard where he is eaten by a whale. Regretful Jonas begs for mercy while in the belly of the whale. After 3 days, the whale spits him out and Jonah reaches land safely where he does obey God’s earlier order.
